A Simple Barbeque
23 December 2009
With the strong value we place on including those who are otherwise excluded, it’s no surprise DCM is a ‘community
ministry’. Looking back over the past year there are many examples of community being shaped and formed by our inclusive
approach.
Last week, DCM hosted an end of year barbeque and all of our service users were invited. Director Stephanie McIntyre
says, "It's wasn’t gourmet but it was very popular. At many of the events DCM holds we get a real sense that people like
to come together and we offer a safe place to do that.
Over the year, the Street Footy team DCM supports has developed real camaraderie with each other. They have enjoyed some
great successes this year too, including claiming the title of Street Footy National Champions.
The annual Thanksgiving lunch brings together people for a great festive occasion. Likewise, book lovers gather every year, like pilgrims seeking
treasure, to DCM’s annual Bookfair and our loyal volunteer book sorters gather each week, months out from the fair, to help get things ready.
And, although we’ve had our critics, we still hold hope that a Wet House will be set up in Wellington. Such a facility would support a community of people very much in need.
Thanks for all your support this year and for being part of our community.
Merry Christmas!
