Mexico’s breathtaking acoustic guitar duo, ‘Rodrigo y Gabriela’ will perform for New Zealand fans for the first time in January 2010..

One of the great word of mouth success stories of recent times, Rodrigo y Gabriela have taken the mainstream media and music lovers the world over by storm as they showcase their blistering original songs and famous cover versions in their live set on Spanish guitars.

The pair is heading to Auckland to support their new studio album, entitled ‘11:11’ released in September on Rubyworks (through Shock in NZ).

The long awaited follow up to 2006’s ‘Rodrigo y Gabriela’, which has so far enjoyed worldwide sales in excess of half a million albums, 11:11 features completely self-written compositions for the first time. The album is Rod and Gab’s personal thank you to the musicians who have inspired them along the way, including Carlos Santana, Jimi Hendrix, Al Di Meola, Astor Piazzola and more.

Live in concert, Rodrigo y Gabriela are nothing short of thrilling. “Gobsmackingly proficient and inventive,” says Time Out London, while Acoustic Magazine UK reported, “their energy, impeccable timing and the passion that comes through their music makes them the most exciting and intoxicating live acoustic performers on the planet.”

In performance, fan favourites include riveting versions of ‘Orion’ by Metallica, Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’ plus a host of jazz standards and world music classics featuring their unique blend of heavy metal heroics, Spanish guitar and intoxicating Latin rhythms.

Special guests The Bads will beautifully complement the Auckland Civic Theatre performance, by bringing their gorgeous melodies and pop songs that shimmer with a country vibe - indie intentions with straight-ahead rock; clean guitar lines mixing with quirky ideas; and pitch-perfect harmonies combined with precise rhythms. Each song feels like a mini-masterpiece that has been worked at, honed, cradled and loved.

Make no mistake, Rodrigo y Gabriela are a MUST-SEE experience for lovers of amazing live music. Speaking about their upcoming tour, Gabriela said, “We’re prepared, and we really want to do a great show. We have a few surprises, and it will be a very focused show!”

So, it looks like Rodrigo y Gabriela are prepared. Are you?
