A Bright Christmas at Home

The Wellington City Mission will be joined by Wellington personalities, including players from the Wellington Hurricanes to deliver Special Christmas Hampers on Christmas Eve to families who will otherwise go without.

Wellington City Mission CEO, Michelle Branney, says “It’s been a really difficult year for some families in Wellington; we have seen a major increase help needed from the Food bank and Budgeting services”.

“The pressure of thinking they have to buy toys for children and food for the table for Christmas can put enormous stress on families struggling to make ends meet. That’s where we like to help to take that stress away, so the day can be spent with friends and family like most New Zealanders.”

City Missioner, Fr. Des Britten, says “This year will be sending out over 930 Christmas Food Parcels and helping over 30 other different agencies, including Ronald McDonald House, Victim Support and Women’s Refuge”.

“The 100 Special Christmas Hampers we deliver on Christmas Eve, will include everything from turkeys to Christmas crackers, and of course toys for the children”

“We moved away from the large scale food hall events to allow these families to enjoy Christmas in the privacy of their own home, like most New Zealanders will be doing.

The Wellington region as been so generous this year making it possible to meet the extra 30% demand this Christmas where over 2000 people will be helped and over 1000 children will receive toys.
