MedRecruit men strip to superman undies to raise money for tetraplegic
MedRecruit has just launched a calendar called 'Supermen for Ashley Thomson Trust’ where 9 men have stripped down to superman undies all in the name of assisting a tetraplegic man.
Calendars cost $15 each and 100 per cent of the proceeds go towards raising money for stem-cell transplantation treatment to assist Ashley Thomson to Rise Up and walk again.
In July 2000 Ashley Thomson fell onto his neck fracturing his C5/C6 vertebrae resulting in tetraplegia. Despite this major challenge Ashley didn’t give up hope and has proactively raised money for stem-cell transplantation treatment by Dr Shroff in India. This is his only hope to walk again.
When Dr Sam Hazledine of MedRecruit heard about Ashley’s cause he was moved to take action. “Ashley is an inspiration. So many people get knocked back by life and don’t get back up, but Ashley has had a setback greater than many of us can imagine but he’s doing everything he can to walk again” says Dr Sam Hazledine.
In the theme of Christopher Reeves, the original Superman who also sustained a spinal cord injury, incredible and risky photographs wearing nothing but Superman undies (or ‘supies’ as is the correct terminology!) have been taken in all corners of the globe.  From posing with the Mona Lisa in the Louvre to Alcatraz, from the Eiffel Tower to the leaning tower of Pisa, nowhere has been safe from reach of the Supermen!
“It’s awesome that people I’ve never met are doing so much for me, it means a lot.” says Ashley Thomson. “I’m doing everything I can to Rise Up and every bit of support really helps and is a step forward.”
Ashley has already raised the necessary $70,000USD and completed his first treatment and has regained some movement and sensation in his right foot. To walk again he requires $100,000USD to pay for five more treatments at $20,000USD per treatment.
To order a calendar people can either go to the MedRecruit website www.medrecruit.com and click on the ‘Supermen for Ashley Thomson Trust’ link where they’ll find ordering instructions or freephone 0800 MEDRECRUIT and MedRecruit will ‘look after you’. MedRecruit is paying for the cost of the calendars so the whole $15 goes to the Ashley Thomson Trust.
