Laneway Festival Puts New Zealand in Good Company

The Groove Guide, in partnership with Real Groove, is pleased as punch to be producing the official guide to New Zealand’s first ever St Jerome’s Laneway Festival.

New Zealand’s hottest new one-day music festival breaks all the rules by focussing unashamedly on the best of underground and indie music. Its arrival on these shores cements New Zealand’s reputation as one of the great music festival locations, alongside the likes of Melbourne, Reading, Glastonbury and Barcelona.

St Jerome’s Laneway Festival began as a small boutique event in Caledonian Lane, Melbourne, in 2004. Founded by two friends compelled to create a great party for their mates in bands, the Laneway Festival was an instant success and soon grew to include Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth. The formula is simple. Every year the Laneway Festival features the best legendary and up-and-coming indie bands, playing music that sophisticated music lovers can enjoy in the city centre, with plenty of access to cool refreshment and transport, and without having to sit on over-crowded trains for hours or wade through wasted punters.

Come Auckland Anniversary day, 1 February 2010, an estimated 5,000 people will descend on downtown Auckland’s Britomart Square to watch headliners Echo & the Bunnymen, as well as Florence & the Machine, Sarah Blasko, The 3D’s and other indie types from USA, UK, Oz and NZ.
