Free Entrance to Food and Wine Event: Wellington Region
Saturday 5 December 2009 (10am to 3pm) sees the second annual Kapiti Food Fair, at Whitireia Polytechnic, Lindale Exit, State Highway 1 North, Paraparaumu, Kapiti.
Over 50 stalls will participate in this year’s Food Fair. 2008 saw over 5000 through the gates, and the number is expected to double this year. A full program of live entertainment is also on offer on the day. Something will be available for every taste and every palate.
The Kapiti Food Fair 2008 showcases Kapiti as Wellington’s Food Basket. It offers a taste of the multi-cultural nature of the Kapiti Coast, and it’s unique and award winning bounty and diversity of produce. This event promises to again be a great culinary, beer and wine lover’s experience.
Martin Bosley in Action 2008
Celebrity Chef Martin Bosley and 3 local chefs will prepare a 4-course gourmet meal for charity. This is accompanied by award winning Ohau Gravels and Canvas wines, and beers from Monteiths’. This unique event is in memory of Waikanae school teacher Frank van Kampen, who was tragically killed while cycling home earlier in the year. Limited tickets are still available for this event. Two celebrity wine and beer tasting events also feature this year.
Neil Miller
A beer tasting and appreciation workshop is hosted by beer writer, Neil Miller. Neil’s event features award winning boutique brewery beers from the Tuatara, Croucher and Epic Breweries. The BeerBoys will feature Namibia Breweries’ Windhoek beer range and Savanna ciders, as well as a host of other premium beers from around the world. Monteiths, Tuarata,and several smaller producers will have stands on the day.
John Saker
Wine and travel writer and ex Tall black, John Saker, will host the wine tasting event. John theme is “Acid Drops”, which comments on how acid in the soil and mild growing conditions have on producing quality NZ wines. He will feature the Ohau Gravels Pinot Gris 2009, gold medalist wine and winner of the Bragato award this year, a central Otago Pinot Noir, a Martinborough Chardonnay, a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and a Waipara Riesling. John Saker became New Zealand’s first professional basketball player when he played pro in France in the late 1970s. In 1984 he took up a career in journalism and since 1990 has worked freelance. He began writing about wine in 1998 and before joining Cuisine magazine as New Zealand wine writer in 2007 he was weekly wine columnist for the Weekend Herald. He is the author of two books, Tracing The Arc and How To Drink A Glass Of Wine. He is currently working on two wine books: one about New Zealand pinot noir, the other about wine and travel. John’s latest book will also be promoted at the event.
Tickets for these events are $30 each, and will include tastings of 5 beers or wines, and admission to the appreciation workshops led by the celebrities. Info and tickets: www.beerboys.biz
Ticket sales for beer and wine tastings will be available on the day, but the Fabulous Feast event is expected to sell sold out, with very limited tickets still available.
Entrance to the event is free. Attendees are requested to bring a non-perishable item as donation to the Kapiti Food Bank instead. Spare a thought for those less fortunate as we enter the Festive Season.
