New Zealand to showcase leading talent at World Music Expo
The prestigious 2009 World Music Expo (WOMEX) commences this week in Copenhagen, Denmark and New Zealand will be well
represented with a strong contingent of delegates representing some of New Zealand’s leading music talent such as, Moana
and the Tribe, Ladi6, Batucuda Sound Machine, Te Vaka, Little Bushman, Recloose and Te Waka Huia.
The World Music Expo, in its 14th edition, is a unique opportunity to bring together professionals from the worlds of
folk, roots, ethnic and traditional music and includes concerts, conferences and documentary films. According to The
Australian Newspaper, “Womex is the biggest world music trade fair on the planet"
The New Zealand contingent will hope to attract interest from international recording labels, distributors, concerts and
festival bookers and will host an exclusive event on Thursday night, October 29 in Copenhagen to showcase New Zealand’s
talent to the international music community.
The event is being sponsored by winery Invivo Wines New Zealand, who after only their second vintage is quickly
establishing a global presence. Invivo have ensured guests will be drinking Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc in Copenhagen as
part of the New Zealand experience. Invivo’s marketing director Tim
Lightbourne believes the event is a perfect opportunity for Invivo, he comments “Invivo is committed to supporting
culture, creativity, art and design, and the World Music Expo is a great fit for us, and of course, it’s fantastic to
have international guests drinking our wine in Copenhagen as the event also presents an ideal business opportunity”
The New Zealand presence at the World Music Expo is an initiative of Creative New Zealand and the New Zealand Music
Commission. The World Music Expo runs from October 28 - Nov 1 2009.
