Book Launch to Help Keep Unique Show on the Road

New Zealand’s only mobile art exhibition is launching a book in Christchurch to help keep its show literally on the road.

The Real Art Roadshow consists of two trucks that transport a huge collection of art to secondary schools, free of charge. As part of a fundraising effort, the project is launching Real Art Roadshow: The Book at Christchurch Art Gallery on November 11.
Gallery senior curator Justin Paton will speak at the launch of the book that details the background of the Real Art Roadshow. The publication includes full-colour plates of all 126 works in the roadshow’s collection with an introduction by Hamish Keith.

“The Real Art Roadshow is an eclectic yet cohesive collection of contemporary artworks by a cross section of New Zealand artists, both renowned and emerging,” says founder Fiona Campbell.
”It hangs together as a fascinating and insightful snapshot of post-1945 New Zealand visual art – the kind of collection you would expect to see at top art galleries across the country.”

The roadshow travels to secondary schools throughout New Zealand, giving budding young artists who might otherwise miss out on the chance to visit art galleries because of where they live, the opportunity to be inspired and challenged by the real thing.
