Scotland Calls ‘Andrews’ From Around the World
St Andrew is the Patron Saint of Scotland, and to help celebrate this national day on 30 November, VisitScotland, the
national tourist organization, is calling all people with the equivalent name of Andrew to get in touch and have the
chance to win a trip to Scotland.
This year will see Scotland’s biggest ever St Andrew’s celebration as it also marks the end of a year -long programme of
events called Homecoming Scotland 2009. The spectacular finale includes more than 40 events taking place across the
country from the 26th - 30th November with music, parades, fireworks and much more. The festivities will provide all
those who love Scotland with an occasion to celebrate all that is best about this great country, so whether you visit in
November or take part in our competition, you can get involved!
Andrew has long been a popular name with many celebrities sharing the name or alternative. The world of music has had
its share of famous Andrews, with composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Opera Singer, Andrea Bocelli. Many sports stars also
share the link, with Tennis in particular boasting the names of Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi and of course Scotland’s own
Andy Murray. Film and television is the home of actresses Andie MacDowell, Audrey Hepburn and Drew Barrymore as well as
actor Andy Samberg. Moreover, Andrew also appears as one of the world’s greatest industrialist businessmen and
philanthropists, Andrew Carnegie, who was born in Dunfermline, Scotland.
