Local Team Wins Firefighter Championship
A team from Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade has won
the Australasian Firefighters' Championship held in Rotorua
over the weekend.
Carterton took the title ahead of
22 Australian teams and 8 others from New Zealand competing
in 10 events, all replicating actions taken by firefighters
when they attend fires. Runner up was a team from Nowra, a
volunteer brigade in southern New South Wales. It was the
first time the Australasian Championships were held this
side of the Tasman, hosted by the United Fire Brigades'
Association representing all New Zealand volunteer
brigades.
The Championship will be held again in two
years time in Port Macquarie, New South
Wales.
