This artist initiated project is being co-ordinated through the Tautai Contemporary Pacific Arts Trust to raise funds to support those devastated by the tsunami in the Pacific.

This promises to be a very special event- with live performances starting at 6pm. A wonderful array of art for auction, from some of New Zealand's most renowned artists, will commence at 7pm in support of this worthy cause.

The sale will include works by: Michael Smither, Lonnie Hutchinson, Niki Hastings-McFall, John Ioane, Steven Ball, Suzanne Tamaki, Fatu Feu'u, Edith Amituanai, Jim Vivieaere, Johnny Penisula, Michael Hight, Sopolemalama Filipe Tohi, Deborah Crowe, Chris Charteris, Tracey Tawhiao, bro' Town, King Kapisi and many others.

A catalogue will be available on line prior to the viewing and absentee bids are accepted for the sale.

BORDEAUX WINE AUCTION

Webb's Wine Department in association with The Rees Hotel, Queenstown are pleased to announce a fine wine auction focused on the great wines of Bordeaux. The sale consists of around 130 lots of mainly vintage Bordeaux wines including many from the 1st growth producers (Ch Lafite-Rothschild, Ch Latour, Ch Mouton Rothschild, Ch Haut Brion and Ch Margaux). Whilst the focus of the auction is wines from Bordeaux, the sale will include other top European and New Zealand wines. This event will be a great opportunity for wine investors, collectors and consumers to acquire some of the truly great wines of the world. The combined value of wines up for auction is approximately $250,000.

After the growing success of the last three months, Webb’s is pleased to announce the final sale of Important Works of Art for the 2009 season.
Already consigned is a selection of works by New Zealand’s leading modern and contemporary artists including a fine portrait of Annie Coggan by Frances Hodgkins. Rarely available, an oil of this caliber and quality is sure to excite collectors and admirers alike. Other works of note include a portrait of Princess Sarah by Gottfried Lindauer, Bill Hammond’s softly coloured, unstretched canvas Boulder Bay 2, an imposing John Pule diptych, Hopo, featuring blue clouds and fine drawing, an exquisite Still Life by Jude Rae, early stained canvas’s by Gretchen Albrecht, a strong work by Shane Cotton from 2002 and a joyous jewel coloured lightbox, Palace Radio 2 by Jim Speers. Other works in the sale include pieces by Paul Dibble, Judy Millar, Billy Apple, Sam Mitchell, Ralph Hotere, Ann Robinson, William Sutton, Michael Smither, Denis O’Connor and Tony Fomison.

The second Bethunes@Webb’s Sunday Sale (20 September 2009) drew an excellent crowd. Strong bidding saw 92% of lots sell on the day. Highlights of the auction include a collection of William Colenso materials, which sold for $3,590 (including buyer’s premium); a copy of Archibald Baxter’s ‘We Will Not Cease’ inscribed by the author, which realised $960; an original William Swainson sketch, which sold for $720; and a copy of R A K Mason’s ‘No New Thing’, which achieved $2,750. Entries are now invited for the Christmas auction of rare books, maps, photography and ephemera, to be held on 29 November 2009.
