NZ Art Guild Presents 101 Artists
Press release:
15th October 2009
In a major
push to promote the diverse and talented artists in the
Kumeu area the NZ Art Guild in conjunction with LJ Hooker is
arranging 101 artists to exhibit in 6 top local
gardens.
This is a unique event says Sophia Elise,
Manager of the NZ Art Guild “How often do you get 101
artists on site for 2 days, talking to people, demonstrating
their art and exhibiting – especially in a unique and
stunning setting as these gardens. This event is so sought
after that we not only have local artists but also award
winning artists from around the North Island and as far away
as Dunedin.”
“Gardens have traditionally been
considered an idyllic place to escape the modern, everyday
world and these gardens are no exception – secret
paradises some that are open to the public for the very
first time. The garden has long provided inspiration for
artists just as art has long inspired gardeners these
gardens are an amazing gallery for artists to showcase their
art – blending of colors, textures and imagery.”
The Rodney district is well known for its farmers and
craft markets but Kumeu Art in the Garden take it one step
further – connecting artists with collectors in award
winning gardens and raising money for charity In addition
to the artists exhibits you can sit in an amphitheatre at
Gartincaber and listen to the Auckland Pipe Band play, have
your portrait taken by Richard Leonard, an award winning
photographer, at Willows reach, and even get a great cup of
coffee at several of the gardens.
“We wanted to
create an event that will raise national and international
awareness of what amazing creative people we have in this
region, and what better gallery than some of the most
beautiful gardens in the area?” says Graham McIntyre;
founder of the event, and owner of LJ Hooker Kumeu. “We
want to encourage people to make a real weekend of it –
taking in not only the gardens and artworks but also the
local cafes, wineries and accommodation.”
This two
day event combines many different art forms including
jewellery, painting, sculpture, photography and finishes
with a Charity Art Auction at Willows Reach Lodge on Sunday
8th at 3:30pm. The funds raised form this event will be
distributed by Rotary back to local charities - West
Auckland Hospice and the Huapai Volunteer Fire
station.
The NZ Art Guild is a subscription based
business that provides support, opportunities and resources
to visual artists of all career stages and has recently won
The David Award for the Most Community Minded
Business.
