Lochore reappointed as Chairperson of QEII National Trust
Wairarapa sheep farmer, Sir Brian Lochore, has been reappointed as Chairperson of the Board of the Queen Elizabeth the Second National Trust by Hon Tim Groser, Minister of Conservation.
This is Sir Brian’s third term as Chairperson of the Trust. As well as his long term farming experience and outstanding contribution to New Zealand sport, Sir Brian has previously been chairperson of the Hillary Commission.
The Minister has also reappointed Yvonne Sharp for a third term as a Director on the Board of the Trust. Yvonne brings to the Board an extensive knowledge and experience of over 20 years in local government including working at CEO level and three terms as Mayor of the Far North District Council.
QEII National Trust is the leading organisation involved in biodiversity and landscape protection on private land in New Zealand. The Trust has 3,200 registered covenants (legal agreements) protecting over 92,000 hectares of New Zealand’s natural features in perpetuity.
The purpose of QEII Trust is to encourage and promote the provision, protection and enhancement of open space for the benefit and enjoyment of the people of New Zealand.
An open space covenant is a legal agreement between QEII Trust and a landowner to protect an identified feature or site. Covenants protect a variety of open spaces and biodiversity, including indigenous forests, shrublands, wetlands, threatened species habitats, lakes, coastlines, tussock grasslands, rural landscapes, archaeological sites and geological formations.
The Trust also helps by contributing funds for covenant projects such as fencing and advising landowners on managing their covenants.
