8th Latin American Film Festival

30th September – 10th October 2009

The Embassies of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, and for the first time the Embassy of Spain, are delighted to announce the imminent commencement of the 8th Latin American Film Festival.

The grand opening of this event will take place at the Embassy Theatre in Wellingtonon the 30th of September, and will be followed by two screenings per evening on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th of October at the Film Archive, 84 Taranaki Street, Wellington.  The Festival is then to travel to Dunedin, Christchurch, Aucklandand New Plymouth during the remainder of October and November.

Once again, the line-up of films boasts a multitude of thought-provoking and original topics, bringing into play a variety of film genres that will not fail to entertain. The creativity and passion shown by these talented film makers serves to demonstrate that the film industries in Latin Americaand Spaincontinue to enlighten today’s theatre-goers with world class and award winning cinema.

New Zealanders have shown a great interest in Latin American and Spanish culture for many years now and events such as these play a significant role in nurturing this interest, while serving to bring our countries and cultures closer together.  It is therefore with great pleasure that the Latin American and Spanish Embassies here in Wellingtonhave ensured that the Festival has become a regular event on our cultural calendars.
