Jan Hellriegel’s back - All Grown Up
MEDIA RELEASE FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jan Hellriegel’s
back - All Grown Up
Critically-acclaimed singer songwriter Jan Hellriegel is back. The pioneer solo artist of the 1990s is returning to the public eye with a new album, All Grown Up, her first release since 1995 and a concert at Auckland’s Civic Theatre on October 22.
“This moment has been a long time coming and the journey I‘ve taken since my last release has given me a lot to say. Being back in the studio and on stage feels like I’m home again,” Hellriegel says.
Jan Hellriegel is considered a groundbreaking female singer songwriter within the music industry both here and in Australia.
Award winning Australian producer Daniel Denholm (Midnight Oil, The Cruel Sea, The Whitlams) arranged the orchestration on three tracks on the album and says Jan Hellriegel is one of the best storytellers he has worked with for 20 years.
“Her songwriting voice has grown
since her last work. All Grown Up is achingly honest
and sublimely beautiful. It’s the work of an artist at the
peak of her powers”, he
says.
Respected New Zealand musician
and producer Wayne Bell produced All Grown Up at Neil
Finn’s Roundhead Studios in Auckland. Bell has worked with
Bic Runga, Tim Finn and Dave Dobbyn and says Jan Hellriegel
is every bit their equal as an original singer
songwriter.
“Jan is hard to compare to others and her musical influences aren’t immediately obvious. She doesn’t sound like anybody else and she has remained true to her own voice. Her music has a unique and rich quality,” he says.
Jan says she hopes the songs on All Grown Up will speak to anyone who has ever felt a bit lost in life.
“I think you grow into optimism. It’s an album about being older and wiser, the freedom you feel when you wake up one morning and find yourself all grown up. Life’s like music. Sometimes you shouldn’t think too hard about it, you should just feel it,” she says.
Jan will be performing live with a full band and special guests at the Civic Theatre, Thursday 22nd October 7.30pm. The album All Grown Up will be available in store on 19 October.
