Parachute Band finalist for Vodafone NZ Music Awards
Auckland, 3 September 2009 – Parachute Band has just been announced as a finalist for the Vodafone NZ Music Awards next month.

The worship band is a final contender in the Best Gospel/Christian Album category, for its sophomore album TECHNICOLOR.

Recently returning from a 13-week tour of the US, Canada, Romania, Hungary, Scotland, Rome, the UK, Germany, Holland and Hawaii, the band says the industry nod is a fitting welcome home.

Drummer and producer Sam de Jong said: “It is a real honour to be in the finals for this award. 2009 has been our busiest year yet, so we’re glad to be back in the country long enough to attend the ceremony!”

Auckland’s Langham Hotel packed with music industry types and media last night for the finalists announcement – which was delivered by Dai Henwood.

Other finalists in the Gospel category are The Ember Days, Mumsdollar and Primal Band.

Parachute Band is in the country for the next two months, and is currently on The Parachute Roadshow – playing in 11 cities throughout New Zealand with Rapture Ruckus and Juliagrace.

After stopping in New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Hastings, Wellington, Nelson, Invercargill, Christchurch, Whangarei, Tauranga, Hamilton and Auckland for the Roadshow concerts, the band jets back overseas to tour Asia and Australia for the rest of the year.

Parachute Band won the coveted People’s Choice Award at last year’s NZ Music Awards, but was unable to attend the ceremony due to touring.

The Vodafone NZ Music Awards will be held on October 8 at the Vector Arena, and will be the band’s first appearance at the awards since it reformed with its new line-up in 2006.
