2009 MySpace Choice Awards Winners Announced!

[September 2nd 2009] MySpace today announced the winners of the 2009 MySpace Choice Awards. An opportunity for MySpace users around the nation to vote for their favorite NZ artists, the MySpace Choice Awards were comprised of six categories : ‘Comedy’, ‘Hip Hop’, ‘Indie’, ‘Pop’, Rock, ‘Roots’, ‘Unsigned’ and ‘Your Choice’.
This year’s competition saw a groundswell of support for home-grown talent, with around three and a half thousand votes
cast.
Nominated artists were selected from the MySpace Top 500 and comprised of a mix of popular signed and unsigned bands.
True to MySpace’s roots supporting independent and emerging artists, the nomination list also featured unsigned Kiwi
bands.

From international superstars Flight of the Chonchords, to the likes of unsigned band Clap Clap Riot, the 2009 MySpace Choice Award winners are as diverse as they are talented. As Susan Carlton explains “Having drawn thousands of votes from across the
nation, the MySpace Choice Awards are both a testament to Kiwi enthusiasm for homegrown talent and the vitality of the
community of artists and fans on MySpace . With over 30,000 NZ artists on MySpace, there’s no shortage of phenomenal
talent and MySpace is delighted to recognize this flourishing music scene.”
Winners across each category receive a MySpace Choice Award and as the artist with the most votes overall, Midnight Youth receive a MySpace promotional package on the MySpace NZ Homepage, Music Channel and Kiwi Hub and an editorial promotional package on MySpace in New Zealand and Australia.
