Street Dance New Zealand held the WORLD HIPHOP DANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
9 of New Zealand’s leading Street Crews Qualified to represent New Zealand at the WORLD HIPHOP CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009
Orleans Arena, Las Vegas
The 9 NZ Crews performed with 130+ dance crews from around the globe. Such was the presence of the New Zealand Crews
that they received standing ovations from the worldwide spectators. The 2009 TEAM NZ included: Kani Krew, Dejavu,
Kapeesh, Fearless, Dziah 2.0, ReQuest, TMC, Sweet & Sour, and Odyssey combining to form New Zealand’s most fierce team yet! NZ had 6 teams advance to the Finals at the
World Championships; our countries highest record yet. The only country to do so!!!
Following on from SWEET & SOUR our 2008 World Champions, REQUEST DANCE CREW representing female strength and presence, are our newest Gold
Medalist Varsity Division - WORLD HIPHOP CHAMPIONS 09.
New Zealand has a growing reputation in the developing competition scene.
Having left a footprint in the hip-hop community worldwide NZ is now being recognized in also the mainstream
entertainment arena with our very own NZ ‘SWEET & SOUR’ Dance Crew is showcasing to the audience on the Randy Jackson’s “America’s Best Dance Crew” first episode (season
4) filming!
Not only are New Zealand’s Street Dance performers being noticed as revered competitors but as respected performers in
the international Entertainment Industry
SDNZ Event Director Ennaolla Paea says:
“The World Championships this year has been an eye opener for many of our dancers who are receiving much respect and
support from the international dance community. Opportunities have been opened to tap into the main entertainment
sector. I see New Zealand’s dancers developing further, to beyond the area of competition into more pathways of success,
spring-boarding from this event into other international stages and opportunities. With the success of role models such
as Sweet & Sour and ReQuest, our young performers can only be set for greatness ”
The Community of NZ Street Dance is putting things in place to give more opportunities for young people to develop their
skills, abilities and aspirations.
In acknowledgement of TEAM NZ 2009, Street Dance New Zealand in association with Manukau City Council & Mai FM, will be presenting a Welcome Back Team NZ Function with the presence of the Manukau Mayor Len Brown.

and their effort highlights the fact that our young people can succeed with hard work, determination and passion. As the
patron of Street Dance NZ I want to congratulate Team NZ, including the supporters and everyone who was involved in
getting our team to the world championships. Street Dance NZ has provided an opportunity for young hip hop performers
and dance groups to express themselves and to be proud of their art."
