$1 Million Top Spin For Auckland Family

Media Release 8 August 2009

$1 Million Top Spin For Auckland Family

Auckland man, Graeme Cooper has spun up the top prize of $1 million on Lotto's Winning Wheel live draw tonight, says NZ Lotteries' Chief Executive Todd McLeay.

"This is the second $1 million spin this year, and brings the Winning Wheel tally to 12 instant millionaires since the game started," Mr McLeay says.

Graeme was joined at the draw by his wife, Pamela, and their three young boys. This is a huge win for the family, as they normally only spend $2.40 on their weekly Lotto ticket.

Graeme is a graphic designer and his interests include football and art. Graeme says a trip to Europe to see his family is now high on his wish list.

"What a great end to the perfect weekend in Wellington; we couldn't be happier," Graeme said shortly after his spin.

As part of the Winning Wheel prize package, Graeme and Pamela enjoyed a luxury stay at the Duxton Hotel in Wellington, a shopping trip with a stylist for an outfit to wear on the show, and lunch with Lotto presenter Kyllee King-Turner.

All Lotto players are automatically in the draw to win the opportunity to spin Lotto's Winning Wheel, regardless of the type of ticket they buy. Players can check their ticket at any lottery outlet.

Tonight's Winning Wheel ticket was sold at Fresh Choice Greymouth. The serial number is 438-39683075-20XX.

Also tonight, three Lotto players from Papakura, Pauanui and Christchurch won $333,333 each with Lotto First Division. The winning tickets were sold at Pharmacy Plus Papakura, Pauanui Supervalue and Pak N Save Moorhouse Lotto Kiosk, Christchurch.

Two Lotto Strike players also won $75,709 each with Strike Four. The winning tickets were sold at Whitcoulls Corner in Auckland and online at www.mylotto.co.nz.

Lotto Powerball has jackpotted this week, and will be worth an estimated $10 million in next Saturday's draw.

"Anyone who bought a ticket at these retailers should write their name on the back of the ticket and check it as soon as possible at any NZ Lotteries' outlet," Mr McLeay says.
