Magical New RNZB Season Launches
The Royal New Zealand Ballet’s beautiful new production, The Meridian Season of La Sylphide, is stunning audiences and critics alike with its delicate dancing and gorgeous costumes and sets.
The Wellington performances have attracted glowing reviews and lifted the winter chill from audiences with a moving story set in the Scottish highlands and choreographed by Danish great August Bournonville.
The Dominion Post labelled it “spirited, poignant and beautiful” while the critic from www.theatreview.org.nz confessed to being “mesmerised by the corps de ballet”.
The season also features the colourful Dances from Napoli, which sees the performance open in Italy before fairies, witches, and love struck Scotsmen take to the stage.
Dancers and crew are now heading off on tour to cast a spell in five further centres: Christchurch (6 to 9 August), Dunedin (13 and 14 August), Invercargill (19 and 20 August), Auckland (26 to 29 August) and Napier (2 and 3 September).
Thanks to the generous support of The Lion Foundation, the RNZB is able to offer an extensive programme of education and community events around the country in conjunction with the season. For more information check our website at nzballet.org.nz/education
