Kids Clothing Exploits Children

Kids Clothing Exploits Children

CPS are very disappointed to see children being exploited by adults for adults entertainment through the use of sexually suggestive slogans on T-Shirts being sold through a retail chain in New Zealand. The slogans are offensive and totally inappropriate for childrens clothing.

Using childrens clothing to display adult sexual innuendos is degrading and potentially damaging to children, as it sexualises young children. It shows the insensitivity and ignorance of the adults who market, or dress children, in these garments.

CPS spokesperson Janine Evans says “We are disappointed that the company accepted these slogans for their T Shirts and that they are now defending their decision despite outrage from many responsible adults. We are perhaps even more disappointed that so many New Zealanders seem to perceive this clear violation of childrens rights as appropriate – as evidenced by the high sales these T Shirts are experiencing.”

Adults have a responsibility, whether as retailers, purchasers or parents, to keep children safe.

New Zealand has the third highest child abuse statistics in the OECD. Clearly as New Zealanders, we need to start looking at ourselves and the attitudes that seem to have developed that make people believe this sort of thing is ok. It’s not ok.

This company has let themselves and the children of New Zealand down.
