NZ owned bank SBS Bank gives back to a local non-profit group
It is great to see a NZ owned bank giving back to local community and the members of the Parkinsons Society want to say
“Thank you Terri to you and your team of special people, not just for the relationship we have with the coffee and
caring, but for your financial support right here in Tauranga.”
The Parkinsonsim Society Tauranga co-ordinator Mary Reid said; “The $1000 win from our SBS Star Account could not have
come at a better time, as we are in the middle of the annual funding round applications and accountabilities process.
Due to the current economic situation funding is becoming harder to get. Many other not-for-profit groups in the BoP are
also in this mode and a Star account at SBS Bank sure beats the work involved in a sausage sizzle or any other
fundraising activity and, what’s more, this is our second win from SBS Bank.”
“I would also like to thank the team at SBS Bank for their support and help since our first meeting. The association we
now have with SBS Bank is very friendly and caring, not just a formal business arrangement. Once again, thanks for
everything and keep up the great work.”
Since SBS Star was launched, non-profit groups from as far a field as Stewart Island to Tauranga have benefitted from a
total of $170,000 from SBS Bank. This includes five groups from the Tauranga district sharing in a total of $11,000
through the monthly SBS Star prize draws.
Initially introduced as a limited edition special last September, the SBS Star Investment Special was re-launched in
June this year due to popular demand and runs until 14 August. The innovative package provides a 12-month investment
special and offers competitive interest rate for investors, coupled with the gift of SBS Bank making a payment back to
the investor’s nominated Star account holder club.
SBS Bank Tauranga branch manager Terri Gregory said the special investment offer was an opportunity for SBS Bank to
provide even greater benefit back to the community.
The SBS Star Investment Special was an additional feature of the highly successful SBS Star banking package, which was
launched last year as a specific account for non-profit groups and societies. SBS Star offers fee-free transactions and
competitive rates on savings and investments, alongside the opportunity to earn 10 monthly prizes of $1000.
“It’s great to find new and innovative ways of giving back to our communities, it’s one of our guiding principles at SBS
Bank and the Star Investment Special has been a way we could benefit many of our non-profit Stars with an extra boost to
their cashbox,” Mrs Gregory said.
“The money is greatly appreciated and will be put to much-needed use by the club.”
Mrs Gregory said ringing up an SBS Bank community Star and telling them their coffers had been boosted with an extra
$1000 through the Star prize draws was a highlight of the month for everyone at the Tauranga branch.
“It’s such a pleasure to be able to make those phone calls and hear their excitement. Our people and our communities are
an integral part of who we are as business and we want to continue to reinforce this by demonstrating that we really
understand the structures and challenges faced by non-profit groups and societies by working with them to meet their
everyday banking needs.”
