McCain Foods announces Gold sponsorship of Silver Ferns and Netball New Zealand

Auckland: July 9, 2009: McCain Foods (NZ) Limited today announced it would become a Gold sponsor of the New Zealand national netball team - The Silver Ferns and Netball New Zealand.

McCain Foods will further support the sponsorship with television and marketing campaigns.

Key Silver Ferns players will also be involved with McCain Foods marketing activities at netball competitions throughout the year.

McCain Foods Australia/New Zealand managing director Mr. Steve Yung said “The sponsorship represents a significant investment to support the successful Silver Ferns and Netball New Zealand, which are a large part of sporting and cultural life in New Zealand.”

“This is also a strong commitment by McCain Foods to New Zealand and our vision to grow and become an integral part of the community, and in particular to the many families who have young netball players who may someday play for the national team,” he said.

Mr. Yung said that McCain Foods supported community involvement in sports, healthy foods and active lifestyles - and the Silver Ferns are an embodiment of those values.

McCain Foods would also have exclusive sponsor status in the frozen food and meals category.

McCain Foods has been in New Zealand since 1990 with the acquisition of Alpine foods, and has plants in Timaru and Hastings, New Zealand, employing over 400 people annually.
