Stripping it back and keeping it Young

Stripping it back and keeping it Young

We're counting down to the 15th opening night of Young and Hungry at BATS, the walls have been stripped back to concrete and the place is swarming with young bucks, and their wonderful mentors. I've been trying to figure out which set piece belongs to which show... maybe that could be in the Theatre quiz, on at The Pit Bar Thursday night?! All I know is that all three shows are gonna be pretty fine.

Thanks to those who came and supped on Mulled wine, we've managed to raise a bit of cash to keep BATS going strong. When you come down to see the Young & Hungry shows feel free to pop your change in our flash new donation box coz this next couple of weeks we are totally doing it for the kids. Well, those under the age of 25 at least...

_Young & Hungry

Young & Hungry turns 15 with three great new plays, and a whole host of fresh new talent. Or spread it across a few nights if you like!

Dolores Romero sings like an angel; Gaia wants to save the world and Napolean wants to travel far away from it; Velma is into cruelty-free pork, Lelani wants to beat her up and Chevy thinks he can explain everything. But what they all really want to know is who they are, and where they belong in this big wide world.

Sit on It by Georgina Titheridge (NZ)

@8pm

A comedy for chicks, dicks and anyone who has ever wondered why girls spend so much time in the bathroom. Set entirely in the ladies toilet of a trashy nightclub, Sit on It is awash with witty dialogue and authentic characters – be prepared to be grossed out, affronted and laughing in the aisles!

Urban Hymns by Miria George (NZ)

Money talks in Joseph’s neighbourhood and the market place rules. But when he can no longer make the cut Joseph turns to Tobias for an answer and together they make the worst decision of their lives. _The PlayPit - TONIGHT!

Katydid by Lucy O’Brien

6pm, The Pit Bar @ BATS Theatre

Come down to The PlayPit and meet Kate. Born with cerebral palsy, all her life she has relied on her parents and caregivers for everything others take for granted. Now leaving her teenage years, she also dreams of leaving the home that has both sheltered and stifled her, and of finally entering a world of light that, though harsh, exposes both the beauty and ugliness of life. Written by Lucy O’Brien, a Wellington resident known to some as a writer for NZGamer, an Aro Video employee, and to others for her wit and sarcasm. She has Postal, another of her plays, being produced at BATS later on this year. Come see why.

Snuggle back in the deliciously informal atmosphere of The PlayPit and throw around a bit of discussion after the reading, or just listen to this great new play read out loud for the first time.

_Mental Health Break

I'm thinking of setting up an ACapella Covers Choir, and like all good people I've been researching. Check out the Nintendo, Daft Punk, and even an "I'm on a Boat" cover here. If you want to see a Kiwi version of that beast of a song, check out the "I'm on a Waka" version from Saturday's I AM TV episode. Tau Ke! If you're a fan of a good cover, then I totally recommend this website. Lots of gems to unearth...

And for something completely unrelated, gather up the troupes and play a bit of Pick the Perp. It is strangely addictive.
