Getting arty with ecology and the community
Selected artists are about to share with Wellington their take on ecology and the community through various media at Trade Aid Wellington from 10 July. The artwork shows affects on the environment or inspires to engage our environment and local communities.
12 selected artists will be selling their artwork in an exhibition titled Creative Environment at the Trade Aid Wellington store. The artwork ranges from paintings, collage, sculptures, jewellery and photography that aims to inspire others to see the environment around them. Trade Aid recycled Kenyan jewellery and Indian patchwork will also be on prominent display in the store.
“The exhibition theme is a continuation of the focus on the environment for Trade Aid this year. We’ve asked community artists for an interpretation of our theme ‘Creative Environment: Perspectives on ecology and community’. We wanted artists to visually present how they see the environment today and in the future” says Trade Aid Wellington Manager, Christian Pilkington.
Exhibiting painter Rosalie Jurczenko says her work is based on water vessel images collected from aid agencies.
“The water bearers are used by refugees in camps, used in survival situations. I want people to see the value of one life’s given resources, water, in these times of political and environmental times.”
“Creative Environment will show the real environment we live in and influence how we might make a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged producers by supporting the environment and fair trade” says Pilkington.
Creative Environmentopens with entertainment and refreshments on at 6,30pm on Friday 10 July at the Trade Aid store on Victoria Street, Wellington. The exhibition runs until 31 July.
