Command Performance By The California Dreamers
Right Royal “Command Performance” By The California Dreamers
On Saturday 27th June Hutt Valley’s ‘flower power’ group the California Dreamers have been summoned to a special “command performance” for a right royal event being held at the St James Theatre in Wellington.
The highly successful and hugely entertaining Queen of the Whole Universe – A Very Queer Beauty Pageant – is heading south for the first show in the capital.
Queen of the Whole Universe is a beauty pageant with a difference where most of the cast are boys dressed as girls. Now in its sixth year the event will explode on stage in Wellington in masses of colour and sparkle. This set to be a brilliant night out - boasting laughter, creativity and fabulous entertainment.
The California Dreamers have become one of the top acts in the country. With tight four-part harmonies and groovy costumes, the band celebrates the sunny sound of the late 1960’s. The ‘Dreamers bring you great classic hits from The Mamas and the Papas, Mungo Jerry, Herman’s Hermits, The American Breed, Fifth Dimension, The Turtles, Simon & Garfunkel, The Turtles, the musical ‘Hair’… and lots more.
The California Dreamers are thrilled to have been asked to take part in the high-profile charity event as manager/group member William Kircher explains; “We are really proud to have been asked to perform. This is their biggest show yet and more importantly Queen of the Whole Universe is not just about entertainment. The show raises funds for HIV/AIDS Charities including the New Zealand AIDS Foundation. Over past years the QWU event has donated over $145,000 to HIV/AIDS causes in New Zealand.”
The ‘Dreamers are making a special appearance onstage during the event and will also entertain in the Jimmy Bar after the show. Tickets to the show include an invitation to the after-show party where both the participants and audience can mingle and celebrate working together for a great cause.
