Pick It Up Youth Concert Promotes Recycling
Following its successful schools’ rap competition to promote recycling to young people, the Glass Packaging Forum has teamed up with Che Fu and record label Dawn Raid to create the PICK IT UP brand. This is a nationwide, public education programme that highlights the positive role of packaging, responsible disposal of packaging waste, recycling, reuse and litter.
On July 8th the first PICK IT UP Youth concert will take place at Auckland’s Telstra Clear Events Centre. This is the first in a planned series of concerts featuring popular artists for kids on school holiday.
Some of New Zealand’s leading artists will be sharing the stage with PICK IT UP front man and recent recipient of a NZ Order of Merit, Che Fu, multi platinum selling Savage and Smashproof, who have just broken the New Zealand record for the longest consecutive No. 1 single. They will be joined by a host of other artists.
John Webber, General Manager of the Glass Packaging Forum says:
“The Forum takes its role of advocacy and education very seriously and understands that there cannot be a single method of delivering the recycling/anti litter message to all stakeholders. Working with Che Fu over the past year has helped industry do something we have struggled to do previously which is to communicate with younger people.
“It’s a great partnership because with the best will in the world, industry isn’t able to make recycling hip – but musicians and artists can. We need ambassadors that kids and their parents will recognize.”
Che Fu, husband and father of four, avid believer in the care, welfare and sustainability stewardship of Aotearoa, personally identifies with the vision and has worked with the Glass Packaging Forum to develop this programme. Che believes that through the medium of music and dance the public more easily grasp a message, run with it and promote and influence their peers
“We can learn much from our youth. I believe that one family member, one vote, one voice no matter how young can make a difference. I believe many of our young people value and respect Aotearoa and the environment. They are our future sound engineers, artists, All Blacks and computer experts. They are our future." Che Fu
Each of the artists performing at the concert will endorse Che Fu’s message:
“Pick Up your bottles and put them in the recycling bin. We like to keep it real green round here.”
The team at Telstra Clear will manage the event sustainably focusing on minimizing energy consumption, managing waste and using sustainable lighting systems.
