A Window To The World - On Maori Television!
An exciting and unique current affairs show is set to launch on Maori Television, based on a new programme-sharing scheme between indigenous broadcasters around the world.
INDIGENOUS INSIGHT is a half-hour show that will compile the best news and current affairs stories of the week, as sent in from around the world, for a fascinating and up-to-date window into other indigenous cultures’ daily lives.
Hosted by Julian Wilcox, the programme will premiere on Maori Television from Sunday July 12 at 8.30 PM.
This series will be built on contributions from members of the World Indigenous Television Broadcasters Network, a group that aims to share knowledge and support for native languages and cultures.
Each week, member broadcasters will post the most compelling stories that are affecting their communities.
The networks and countries expected to put in to the current affairs show include; Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN), Canada; TG4, Ireland; Maori Television, New Zealand; NRK Sámi Radio, Norway; BBC ALBA, Scotland; Taiwan Indigenous Television (TITV).
“As well as the best stories of the week, INDIGENOUS INSIGHT will compile indigenous cultures’ perspectives of global issues,” says the programme’s executive producer Te Anga Nathan. “It will look at a raft of significant issues impacting on the world, from global pandemic to global warming, and the development of traditional cultures in the 21st Century.”
Maori Television chief executive Jim Mather says this kind of collaboration, with other similar broadcasters, is thought to be a first, and has the potential to increase audiences, create better access to resources and enhance knowledge transfer.
“INDIGENOUS INSIGHT will be unique, an international indigenous current affairs series, probably the only one of its kind in the world, that will provide comprehensive coverage of the issues affecting indigenous communities,” he says.
A window to the world, through the eyes and lives of indigenous people, INDIGENOUS INSIGHT screens on Maori Television from Sunday July 12 at 8.30 PM. Episodes will also be available to view on website at: www.maoritelevision.com
