Stratos joins F**K You Fest with competition

Public Address blogger Russell Brown and Stratos Television are challenging New Zealanders to make what they are calling “adverts for diversity”.

They are calling for Kiwis to enter a competition to make better video clips than those already posted on You Tube that are set to Lilly Allen's jaunty little anti-hate ditty, 'F*** You'.

“We're looking for fresh ideas and local faces in what you might call advertisements for diversity,” Russell Brown says on his blog.
The idea started when Brown came across anti-homophobia videos set to Lily Allen's new song on the internet. He wrote about “The Big Fat Gay Collab” in his blog on May 22, in which 23 You Tubers give Allen's new song an anti-homophobia focus in advance of the International Day Against Homophobia. Those clips were followed by a French version.

Lily Allen is quoted as saying the song was never about George Bush: "This song is not a direct attack at anyone, it was originally written about the BNP in the UK, but then I felt this issue has become relevant pretty much everywhere. We are the youth. We can make coolness for our future. It’s up to us. Go green and hate hate."

Brown says the New Zealand creative and screen production communities are stacked with LGBT talent: “Wouldn't it be cool if New Zealand joined the meme - and blew everyone else off the dance floor?

For the NZ competition you don’t have to be gay to play.

The deadline for entries is June 5 and should be sent to Deb Faith at Stratos Television (www.stratostv.co.nz ) in file, DVD or mini-DV format. The email address to send video clips is info@tritv.co.nz.

The entries will be screened (in an appropriate timeslot) on Triangle on June 11 and Brown says the winner will screen at the Orcon Great Blend on the same evening.
