Outward Bound for adventure

Outward Bound for adventure

UCOL Wairarapa’s Exercise and Sport Performance Student Nat Schlebusch has been selected to attend Outward Bound’s No Limits course in June.

When UCOL’s PEP advisor Sharon Joliffe was approached by Outward Bound requesting applications for the course, Nat’s name immediately sprang to her mind.

“Nat has the right mix of enthusiasm and empathy for this particular course. I knew he would benefit greatly and the experience would be a valuable addition to his c.v. He had also mentioned in the past that he’s always wanted to attend Outward Bound,” she says.

With Sharon’s assistance and the support of his lecturer Eddy Kuipers, the Certificate in Exercise and Sports Performance student was successful in his application for a $2000 Outward Bound scholarship to take part in the eight day course.

The No Limits course is specifically designed for people aged between 18-30 years where half of the participants have a mild disability. As an able bodied 18 year old, Nat is excited about the prospect of challenging himself physically and mentally. “The whole thing sounds amazing,” he says.

Nat’s No Limits course starts at the Outward Bound School at Anakiwa on 19 June.

The UCOL Wairarapa Sport and Exercise programme started this year. The Certificate in Exercise and Sport Performance (Level 4) is a one year, full time course.
