New Regional Weather Maps & Logical Forecast

25th May 2009

New Regional Weather Maps & Logical Weather Forecast From Tomorrow On TVNZ

TVNZ unveils a new weather forecast presentation and a series of new regional weather maps on ONE News tomorrow night.

“The new forecast has been designed in conjunction with the Met Service to provide a deeper understanding of weather patterns that influence the country in a more logical and easier to understand format”, says ONE News Editor, Paul Patrick.

The forecast will be told in a different way from tomorrow, “Weather information has traditionally been presented by province, we are changing that slightly to show areas affected by similar weather systems”.

“Weather from the south-west of New Zealand usually hits Fiordland then rolls up the West Coast, so it would seem logical to provide a forecast for the entire West Coast of the South Island and a separate one for the east coast showing weather from the south hitting Invercargill and heading north towards Kaikoura”.

“An additional regional weather map has also been included in the forecast which removes the clutter and makes each map so much cleaner and easier to read.”

TVNZ will also be unveiling a new live weather camera tomorrow night in Tauranga.

“We have taken a great deal of time and care in constructing this new forecast in consultation with the Met Service. TVNZ’s weather presenters, Karen Olsen (a trained meteorologist), Jim Hickey, Renee Wright & Tamati Coffey are especially excited to be bringing this new forecast because they really understand how important the weather is and how significantly it affects many New Zealanders every day”.
