The Solid Energy Season of SLAVA'S SNOWSHOW
A winter wonderland that will
(literally) blow you away
The Festival and Solid
Energy are delighted to present international Russian
sensation and multi-award-winning SLAVA'S SNOWSHOW for the
first time in Christchurch.
This July lucky Festival audiences will join the millions of children and adults in more than 80 cities all over the world since its Moscow premiere in 1993 who have been left dazzled and entranced by an experience unlike anything else – a world of wonder and spectacle that mixes beautiful crafted clowning with breathtakingly beautiful images. The show's creator, former Cirque du Soleil star Slava Polunin (who performed in Alegria in Auckland), is a Russian-born virtuoso of clowning and mime, rated by many as the world's greatest clown.
Yet this is no ordinary clown show. The ensemble cast of clowns use a wide array of emotions and stunning visual effects: a bed morphs into a boat, a white cotton web envelops the audience and a tiny piece of paper leads a whirling blizzard storm that eventually engulfs an awestruck, delighted audience.
"The single most beautiful thing I have ever seen in a theatre in my life" – actor Simon Callow, Sunday Express
"Slava's Snowshow is to clowning what Cirque du Soleil is to the circus" – Variety
"The mind boggles.
Slava's Snowshow achieved something I've rarely seen: a
spontaneous eruption of playful energy which lifted the
entire audience in a bubble of pure delight. Magic!" –
Daily Telegraph
"A show that touches the heart as well as tickling the funny bone" – New York Times'
Hilarious and poignant, fun and enchanting, Slava's Snowshow is a magical theatre experience the whole family will adore. Go on, take a step into this winter wonderland and be transformed. This promises to be a once-in-lifetime experience.
