Last Chance For Authors To Enter Trust Award
-Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust Book Award entries close 31 May-
New Zealand mind, body and spirit writers have less than one month left to enter their work in the 2009 Ashton Wylie
Charitable Trust Book Awards.
Books must be submitted by 31 May 2009, should be 48 pages or longer, and must have been published between 1 April 2008
and 31 March 2009.
The Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust, in association with the New Zealand Society of Authors (NZSA), will present a single
award of $10,000 to the category winner, one of the largest prizes awarded for literature in New Zealand.
Tina Shaw, NZ Society of Authors Programme Manager, says the Book Award offers industry recognition of the winner’s work
and their contribution to the category.
“The award acknowledges top literary talent in the New Zealand mind, body, spirit genre and is a fantastic opportunity
for published authors to further showcase their work,” says Tina.
“In the past winners have found that the award significantly raises the profile of their work and provides a gateway for
future opportunities. I would strongly advise writers to enter.”
In addition to the published book award category, the Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust and the New Zealand Society of
Authors are also presenting an award for unpublished manuscripts. Entries for this category closed on 31 March 2009.
Both awards will be presented at a ceremony in August at the Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust’s own venue, Hopetoun Alpha
in Auckland.
Medium Kelvin Cruickshank will be attending the event to show his support for literature in the mind, body, spirit
genre. Kelvin recently released his own book, Walking In Light, a bestselling autobiography detailing his life story.
Tina says the success of Walking In Light demonstrates the growing public interest in the mind, body, spirit category.
“The genre is increasing in popularity as more New Zealanders begin to realise the importance of spiritual wellbeing.
High profile leaders in the field, such as Kelvin, have made it more socially acceptable for people to explore this
category.”
To be eligible for the awards, authors must be New Zealand citizens residing here. Submission forms and entry details
