Wellington Kids In Spin Over Bike Jam
Around 730 keen kids from all around Wellington will be lining up for the annual Meridian Kids’ Bike Jam being held at Trentham Memorial Park, Upper Hutt, on Sunday 10 May.
The Meridian Kids' Bike Jams are the largest mountain bike series for young people in Australasia. There are four event categories with varying lengths and degree of difficulties, so there is something for kids of all ages.
The Memorial Park course involves a mixture of gravel roads, open grass and a single track over flat terrain.
Kay Eade, Sponsorship Coordinator for major sponsor Meridian, says the emphasis is on participation.
“The Meridian Kids’ Bike Jams provide a great opportunity for children to be involved in cycling, in a safe environment,” she says. “Every year more and more children are having a go. We have already seen some record attendances at Bike Jams this year, including 860 kids in Christchurch.
“Cycling is definitely riding a high at the moment following some fantastic performances on the world stage. It is great to see the kids getting out there trying to emulate some of their heroes. We look forward to being at the Wellington event ensuring our stars of the future keep their energy up with a free sausage sizzle.”
This year Meridian is offering competitors an extra incentive to get involved by offering its customers $5 off their electricity bill for each child they register for the Bike Jams.
Meridian has also ensured there is something for the parents by giving away two hampers worth $500 each full of various goodies including eco store products, t-shirts and skincare products.
Every child who completes the course will also receive a medal, certificate and a backpack full of goodies.
