NZ Music Month Technology News
NZ's "Alms Electronica" is amongst the first group of music artists in the world to release new tracks under the new mp3HD format which provides "lossless" or "high definition" audio quality far superior to traditional mp3.
Alms Electronica spokesperson Glyn MacLean comments:
"Back in 2005 during NZ music month I was amongst the first "home musicians" to license my music in Hollywood using only a laptop computer and the internet, with songs going up against James Blunt and David Gray. Now everyone's doing it! mp3 technology is however coming of age and with millions of tracks out there, consumers now expect an improvement in the quality."
"We love mp3HD because it brings mp3 quality into the 21st century. Thanks to Thomson, the inventors of mp3, music fans can now return to an expectation of the "high fidelity" audio quality that we've always loved and appreciated from CD."
“We believe that mp3HD provides a natural and easy path towards lossless digital audio distribution, thanks to it’s compatibility with the mp3 format. We are happy to see artists from around the world like Arms Electronica embracing it”, says Francois Thuiliere of Thomson, the company that co-invented mp3.
Alms Electronica has made four mp3HD (high definition) music downloads available under the creative commons license. The tracks being included by Thomson in the mp3HD program are "Cuba Street" (a tribute to the sounds of Cuba Mall in Wellington), "Fly" (pop piano instrumental), "Harmony in Gaza" (a theatrical soundtrack including sound effects) and "Ode to Johnson" (a tribute to guitarist Eric Johnson, performed on keyboards).
