STORM OF EMOTIONS (SUNDAY
FEATURE) – Sunday May 17 at 9.00 PM
In 2005, the
Israeli Government ordered the evacuation of the Gaza Strip,
a move intended to advance the peace process between the
state and its neighbours. For those living there, this
decision to massive upheaval, described by these
documentary-makers as the most complex and sensitive mission
ever to be undertaken by the police forces. This film was
shot over 20 days, shows events as they happened, and
captures the raw emotion of the people during a significant
period of that nation’s history.
KO TAWA –

A series based on the incredible
taonga from the collection of 19th Century colonial figure,
Captain Gilbert Mair. Tuhawhe, is a bone-handled axe
presented to Tawa – the name given to Mair by Maori - in
1872. Through Tuhawhe a story of dispossession, land loss
and injustice for an innocent man - Mokomoko - is told.
Professor Ranginui Walker and Te Kahautu Maxwell from
Whakatohea recount the story of Mokomoko.

A defiant Chinese princess
turns her back on the nobility of court, to walk the path of
Shaolin and learn to fight. Kung Fu is performed by the
monks of the Shaolin Temple, and for the first time by the
female masters of the Yongtai Nunnery.

series from a Maori perspective, presented by Dr Lance
O’Sullivan. Tonight: It comes on suddenly, often within
hours. The foot becomes red, hot, and swollen. Gout can be
so painful that even placing a bed sheet on the foot can be
excruciating.
REI HAMON – MAN OF NATURE (NZ
DOCO) – Wednesday May 20 at 8.30 PM
Rei Hamon was a
forestry worker and shearer from the East Coast who became
an artist when a spinal injury left him incapacitated. This
is a tribute to his life, featuring his intricate art work
and the sharing of memories from those close to him.
HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI – Friday May 22 at 8.30 PM and
Saturday May 23 at 5.30 PM
A show with a style and
flavour all its own, this live singing competition has grown
a large and faithful following over the last two series,
from the amazing talent that turns up to audition every week
to the dedicated viewers that tune at home. Filmed in front
of a studio audience at Maori Television’s Auckland base,
performers travel with their supporters from all around the
motu to be part of the fun, entertain the crowd – and have
a crack at winning the hearts and text votes of the
audience. The irrepressible, one and only Te Hamua Nikora is
back as host, with side support coming this year from past
HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI winners, who made their names in previous
series of the hit show. Viewers’ votes will once again
decide at the end of the night who will win the weekly prize
of $1,000, plus the chance to compete in the grand final for
$10,000.
