Day 5 - Wanaka Reveals its Gallic Charm

A huge thank you to everyone who embraced the French for a day concept in celebration of the world premiere of the fabulous new Dave Armstrong play 'Le Sud'. The audience just loved the witty and satirical new play and the audience got into the spirit with French dress up.
Other highlights were Christina Lamb talking in the Infinity Crystal Palace as part of the Aspiring Conversations series. She amazed the audience with her stories of courage in the battlefields and first hand point of view on the business of war reporting.

Aspiring Conversations continues today with two fascinating talks from former Prime Minister Jim Bolger at 1.30pm and George Fergusson at 3pm. Both in the Infinity Crystal Palace. Because of the unprecedented demand for tickets on previous days: the Festival has decided to put both these talks on for free for all of those who missed out, and to say thank you to the community for their amazing support.
 
Street Theatre Day 10am - 2pm 
The Festival takes to the streets today between 
 - This wonderful installation 'Baby where are the fine things you promised me?' will be on the corner of Helwick and Ardmore Streets outside Kai Whakapai from 10am onwards.
- Lord Poddymouth and his singing handbasin will roam the streets from 11am until 2pm.
- Face painting with Catriona Finlayson in the library from 10am onwards.
- Fabio and Ana Robles have been wowing audiences with their Tango dancing with the New Zealand Army Band. Come and see this amazing couple and learn how to tango outside Kai Whakapai on the corner of Helwick and Ardmore Street between 12 noon and 2pm. And the fabulous New Zealand Army band will be roaming the CBD.
- Stilt walkers will be roaming from 11am until 1pm.

Ship Songs amazed audiences in Wanaka - see it at Arrowtown Athenaeum tonight and Sunday night at 7pm. Tickets still available on the door or phone (03) 443 4178. This one man show is inspired by how actor Ian Hughes mum and dad met on the high seas. It is a visually stunning new show from Auckland Theatre Company.
  
 The New Zealand String Quartet perform Haydn's Seven Last Words from the Cross at the Lake Wanaka Centre at 7pm. This very moving work is accompanied by lithographs by artist Nigel Brown and poetry from Dinah Hawken. This is set to be a wonderful performance from some of our finest classical musicians.

L.A Mitchell has a superbly warm, gravelly voice that can soar over her band. She has a sell out show tonight in the Infinity Crystal Palace. 
The New Zealand Army Band head off to Bannockburn after their performances in the Street Theatre Day. This show is Sold Out. As is the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra at Luggate Hall.

And the Late Night Club continues with an 11pm show in the Infinity Crystal Palace by Jess Chambers. This Wellington singer songwriter has teamed up with Justin Firefly Clarke whose acoustic guitar rhythms are perfectly matched to Chambers' voice. There are advance tickets available for $10 or on the door for $5.

The website home page will be constantly updated during festival week with information on the latest ticket sales and which shows still have availability, so make sure to check this out.

And do remember to check our ticket exchange board in the foyer of the Lake Wanaka Centre. where people can buy and sell tickets they can no longer use - you might just get lucky for one of these sell out shows.
