Borthwick to help White Ferns at Women’s Twenty20 World Cup
State Wellington Blaze coach Mark Borthwick has been appointed as Video Analyst for the White Ferns at the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup in England in June.
Borthwick’s selection to his new role in support of White Ferns Head Coach Gary Stead and Assistant Coach Bruce Blair is great reward for guiding the Wellington Blaze to their domestic State League Twenty20 title win against the State Canterbury Magicians in January.
The Twenty20 win was the Blaze’s first major domestic title for 20 years, while they also qualified top in reaching the final of the State League one-day competition against Canterbury.
Cricket Wellington Chief Executive Gavin Larsen said Borthwick’s appointment is recognition for all the hard work and dedication he has put in to helping the Blaze.
“Mark’s elevation to the national women’s team is a great achievement and a reflection of the progress that he has made on the back of a tremendous State Wellington Blaze season,” said Larsen.
Last weekend Borthwick attended a camp at Lincoln University with the White Ferns training squad of 30, ahead of the 14-strong team being named at the end of this week.
The Women’s Twenty20 World Cup is being played alongside the men’s Twenty20 World Cup tournament. The White Ferns are based in Taunton in Somerset where all their group matches are scheduled to be played from 11-16 June.
The semi-finals on 18 and 19 June at the Oval in London and Trent Bridge in Nottingham are scheduled as curtain-raisers to the men’s semi-finals, while the final at Lord’s in London on 21 June is also a precursor to the men’s final.
The White Ferns fly to Brisbane on 31 May for three warm-up games against Australia before heading to England.
