Charity Auction Raises $30,000 for Children living with Cancer
The
Camp Quality National Awareness Week campaign quickly hit
top gear this month at a charity auction in Auckland which
realised $31,600.
All proceeds from the charity auction, held at the grand opening of Andrew Simms European, were donated to Camp Quality - a not for profit volunteer organisation that provides support programmes for children living with cancer and their families.
The charity auction, held at the Andrew Simms Newmarket showroom during Camp Quality National Awareness Week (April 11-18), included a range of high value experiences and items, including a Fiat 500 (awarded 2008 Small Car of the Year in Europe), a luxury weekend away to Dunedin and lunch with league legends Steve Price and Camp Quality Ambassador Stacey Jones.
Camp Quality Chairman Jim Grierson says it was a “wonderful night” and “it was great to work in conjunction with such a professional company as Andrew Simms and have the opportunity to gain awareness for Camp Quality.” In addition, a raffle on the night provided another $1,400 bringing the total for Camp Quality to $33,000.
“Who would have thought that in these tougher times we could raise funds in excess of thirty thousand dollars - what a wonderful outcome,” says Mr Grierson.
Invited guests were treated to a European-themed cocktail evening featuring top New Zealand band Op Shop and a guest appearance by Camp Quality NZ Ambassador and Warriors come-back Stacey Jones.
“It’s been great having Stacey on board,” says Mr Grierson. “It’s always a thrill, for children and adults alike, to have Stacey at our Camp Quality events. He has adopted the role with the same dedication he has demonstrated in his very successful rugby league career.”
Camp Quality is dedicated to bringing joy and laughter to the lives of children living with cancer through fun yet challenging recreational experiences. Next year marks twenty five years since Camp Quality organised its first summer camp in New Zealand.
Mr Grierson says, “Each year at a cost of more than $500,000 we deliver, through the commitment of our 750 volunteers and generous donors, fun programmes for children living with cancer. There is nothing more humbling than seeing the great big smiles on their faces at our various activities.”
