How to keep warm this winter!

How to keep warm this winter!

Save up on your energy bill this winter and come on down to the warm and cosy BATS Theatre. That’s right, Our Air- Con also doubles as heater.

“If you fancy a fast-paced drama, packed with power struggles, underhand dealings and a touch of humour, head to Hedda Gabler” – Karyn Cushion- Texture.

On it’s final week at BATS is Hedda Gabler. Theatreview reckons “It deserves to be seen far and wide” and “It is a superb distillation of humanity and inhumanity made extraordinarily accessible without compromising Ibsen’s genius at all”. Have you seen it yet? Book yourself now to avoid disappointment.

Lantern opened last week. “Lantern as a whole was enjoyable, the dialogue was intelligent and the themes explored were challenging”
“The most impressive aspect of Lantern is the acting skills of Li-Ming Hu and Andy Wong… both Hu and Wong managed the transitions smoothly and convincingly embodied the traits of each individual character expertly”

Awesome huh? Want to win tickets to the show Lantern tomorrow night? Scroll below and enter the competition.

Also check out next week's BATSmail for more info on which play will be featured in The Playpit. Wanna get more updates or find out what BATS been upto then become a tweet and follow us on Twitter .

Time: 9pm
Tickets: $18 full / $13 concession / $12 groups 12+.

By Henrik Ibsen
Presented by The Wild Duck
Directed by David Lawrence (Henry V, A Renaissance Man)

"Hedda Gabler is thoroughly accessible and a highly stimulating reworking of a play clearly worthy of being called a classic" - John Smythe - Theatreview.

" A minor miracle" Laurie Atkinson- The Dompost

How does the most beautiful, charismatic yet volatile woman in literature exist and yet refuse to live in today’s more liberal, multicultural society? Trapping herself in the expectations of those around her and dissatisfied with her own existence, she snatches to control anything. Or anyone…

The Wild Duck adapt, crush and throw Ibsen’s nineteenth century classic into the vernacular of Courtenay Place.

Remember her?

"I want, for once in my entire life, to have some influence. To have some power. In someone else's fate…. The power to mould a human destiny." (Lucy Kirkwood, Hedda)

Starring Clare Kerrison, Asalemo Tofete, Amy Tarleton, Salesi Le'ota, Mike Ness and Tupe Lualua
Designed by Ulli Briese (Metamorphosis)
Produced by Fiona McNamara

Light your way home.

Two actors. Nine characters. 85 luminescent minutes.

Chinese New Year's Eve is when families get together, eat like gluttons and sweep the house clean of any bad-luck issues before the New Year. Unfortunately for the Chen family, there are rather a lot of issues. Henry is a broken man, consumed by memories of war and immigration. His children Jen and Ken are still trying to figure out the basics of who they really are. And then his wife Rose, who walked out of their lives a year ago, reappears just before dinnertime….

Written by emerging NZ-Chinese playwright Renee Liang and featuring an all-Chinese cast, Lantern is not a play about being Asian, or even about being Kiwi-Asian It's a play about what it means to be family.

See the play that sold out its debut season at Smackbang Theatre (Auckland) in 2008.
