The Big Idea Rolls Out New Website
Creative New Zealanders will find it easier to network and look for work online through The Big Idea’s new website, www.thebigidea.co.nz.
The website includes user-friendly profiling tools, free job, event and media release listings, career tools, an industry and professional services directory and a new virtual gallery. Members can create and update their own profile page to showcase their work.
The website also features updated enterprise, education and industry news, interviews, reviews, blogs, videos, multimedia and forums. Most of the content is submitted by The Big Idea members.
Employment statistics show that 126,521 people work in paid cultural employment – similar to the size of a city like Dunedin. The Big Idea provides visitors with many of the cultural amenities found in a city, via a virtual and global online community with a New Zealand focus.
“The currency of business in any sector is networks - creating, building and navigating them, and in the ‘new’ economy, effectively using them,” says The Big Idea Executive Director Elisabeth Vaneveld.
“Central to The Big Idea is the vision that through connecting with others artists and creators can readily access the resources they need to fuel their success and sustainability.”
Much of the work in the creative sector is by contractors or freelancers. The site aims to connect established practitioners and enterprises and help emerging and talented creators who need assistance, with everything from funding to marketing resources and an outlet to showcase their work.
“We want to create and celebrate success – all those ways that people in the creative community contribute to the well-being of New Zealand – not just economically but the richness of our life.”
The Big Idea has been running for the past seven years and has a strong online community of 20,000 members.
