More Mean Sports Stars On Maori Television
Former All Blacks prop Kees Meeuws, Waikato Chiefs winger Lelia Masaga and New Zealand shearing champion John Kirkpatrick join award-winning sports entertainment show HYUNDAI CODE this Thursday April 9 at 8.30 PM (repeats Sunday April 12 at 4.00 PM).
Kees Meeuws, of Maori and Dutch descent, was selected for 42 tests for the All Blacks between 1998 and 2004, providing the team with plenty of muscle up front, as well as 10 tries. He represented both Otago and Auckland in provincial rugby, and played for the Blues in the Super 12 competition before leaving New Zealand behind to take up a contract to play rugby in France.
Chiefs winger Lelia Masaga is known for his flair and speed, and is without doubt one of the reasons the Super 14 franchise is doing so well this season. Currently second in the table, the team has won their last five games well, including some resounding wins over the Blues and the Reds. Now in his fourth season for the Super 14 franchise, Masaga always manages to look dangerous with the ball, and many couch commentators have begun to wonder aloud if this is the year he gets his call up to wear the black jersey.
John Kirkpatrick overwhelmed top-class competition to win the Golden Shears this year, a title he also held in 2002. He took down David Fagan and Paul Avery – both legends of shearing – coming through both on pace and the all-important quality points. Kirkpatrick will now represent New Zealand at the world champs, to be held in Norway.
Voted Best Sports Programme at the Air New Zealand Screen Awards 2007, HYUNDAI CODE is an hour-long show, filmed live in front of a studio audience at Maori Television’s Auckland headquarters. Jenny-May Coffin hosts the show, joined by first-time television presenter Ruben Wiki, and the ‘Brofessionals’ – aka Glen Osborne (Oz) and Matua Parkinson (Mutz).
For more news, inside stories and off-camera action with Kiwi sports stars excelling at home and abroad, tune in to HYUNDAI CODE – on Maori Television every Thursday at 8.30 PM (repeats every Sunday at 4.00 PM).
