Pacific Island Heritage Day Celebrating Our Pacific: People, Ocean, Land, Sky and Stars Sunday, April 26 2009 1-5pm
Renowned Story Teller and Encounter Ritual Expert Joe Harawira, has been invited to perform at the American Natural History Museum in New York.
A reference from the American Natural History Museum announced, ‘For thousands of years, Pacific Island peoples have lived together with the ocean, land, sky, and stars. , artist-in-residence at New York University, and celebrated orator and storytelling specialist from Aotearoa/New Zealand weave together traditional and contemporary performance in telling the creation stories of Rangi the Sky Father; Papa the Earth Mother; Tangaroa of the Ocean, and many more.
This family program includes films about the Pacific Island cultures and will feature the acclaimed work of National Geographic Fellow , filmmaker, anthropologist, and the first Polynesian explorer in the National Geographic Society.’
Joe will also be showing the ground breaking documentary on attaining a moko on his face by featured by Maui Productions.
Toi Maori Aotearoa is the national organisation for Maori art and artists and receives major funding from Te Waka Toi, the Maori Arts Board of Creative New Zealand.
