New Zealand's Best Junior Motocross Riders In Action In Taupo
Taupo, New Zealand 8 April,
2009 - 330 of New Zealand's best junior riders will battle
it out at the upcoming KTM and Kawasaki New Zealand Junior
National Championships at Digger McEwen Park in Taupo on
April 17th - 19th, 2009.
The event will be hosted by the innovative Taupo Motorcycle Club, which will also be responsible for the upcoming 2009 FIM Junior Motocross World Championships on August 15-16, 2009.
"Holding the New Zealand National Championships in Taupo is a fantastic build-up to the World Juniors for the country's leading young riders - practice and qualifying will be run as per the Junior World Championship standards and the riders will have a chance to bust out some more laps of the sandy Digger McEwen Park," said Geoff Hall, President of the Taupo Motorcycle Club.
One of the top contenders is expected to be Mangakino's Cam Dillon, who has recently returned from America, courtesy of the 'The Jim Hall Memorial Scholarship' which was been funded by former MX2 World Champion Ben Townley and the Taupo Motorcycle Club to give talented junior Kiwi motocross riders a unique opportunity to start their international career.
"Going to America was an amazing experience - it showed me how fast and intensive the top juniors over there are and what I need to work on," said 16 year old Dillon who achieved impressive results in America before sustaining an injury.
"I would really like to thank Ben and Lucy Townley, Richard Adamson, my parents, the Taupo Motocycle Club and all of the other people who helped me get to America - my experiences there will help me greatly in the NZ Nationals and Junior World Championships," concluded Dillon who will complete in two classes in the NZ Nationals.
Dillon is one of 66 junior
NZ riders who are currently participating in a Motorcycling
New Zealand training squad - after intensive
physiological, fitness and motocross testing, a final New
Zealand team of 30 will be selected for the Junior World
Championships. Their performance at the New Zealand
Nationals is expected to be a significant factor in the
final team selection. .
Entry to the event will be free
for spectators for all three days of the event (April 17-19,
2009) with the thrills and spills of motocross racing from
9am - 4pm daily.
"We made the decision to make entry free for all spectators in light of the current economy and to encourage people to get behind their local riders - motocross is great entertainment for the entire family," said Hall.
