"An elegant performance" - The Dompost

"An elegant performance" - The Dompost

We celebrated our 20th Birthday last week. We wanted to go for a quiet one this year so that we can have one massive as party next year, but that didn’t stop the whanau from dropping in to celebrate.

In keeping with the ethos of BATS, punters who came on our birthday night designed all the cards to say how much they loved us. Come and have a look at some of the awesome designs when you are in the foyer next time and maybe even drop us a late birthday present so that we can start saving for our birthday next year.

There are only 3 more nights left for Dolores and Bud, currently showing in the theatre. BATS will be closed on Friday and Saturday this week for Easter.

“Dolores is sharp and funny” “Barbara Woods as Dolores and Renee Sheridan as Sandra give clear and precise performances…” Laurie Atkinson- The Dompost.

“Bud is like nothing you’ve seen before” “a stunning, provocative and edgy piece of theatre, cleverly produced and beautifully performed.” “ Louis Solino’s performance is exquisite, elegant and meticulously timed” Laurie Atkinson – The Dompost

Bud will be streamed live via the internet this week. Click here for more info.

Starting up tonight at 6pm is The Playpit. BATS new monthly play readings. Featuring tonight is ‘Blood Embrace’ by Gavin McGibbon, scroll down below for more info.

BATSmail will come to your inbox next week on a Tuesday morning as I'll be on the threadmill working off all the calories from the easter eggs on Monday.

Dolores

The Cast and Director of Dolores were interviewed by TVNZ for One News. The interview should be up by tomorrow. Check Criminal Productions website for updates.

Criminal Productions presents

Dolores By Edward Allen Baker

A comedy about… domestic violence!

Season: Tuesday 31st March – Thursday 9th April. No show Sun/Mon.

Time: 7pm Tickets: $14 Full /$12 Concession

Sandra is home alone, enjoying her weekly break from her husband and kids, when her older sister Dolores shows up with a black eye, courtesy of the latest in her string of bad husbands. It becomes clear that Dolores is unwelcome, because she’s an explicit reminder of the brutality Sandra tries to overlook in her own apparently comfortable life. A drama/comedy with the rough Rhode Island demeanor like The Sopranos and the irreverence of Laverne & Shirley.

The PlayPit

The PlayPit begins tonight, Monday 6th April at 6pm.

A dark wee script from Gavin McGibbon, no stranger to the BATS stage with his plays ‘Stand Up Love’, ‘After Service’ & ‘Shipwrecked Beneath the Stars’.

Come see what he has up his proverbial sleeves with this new work, ‘Blood Embrace’.

The actors reading the roles of Ashleigh, Hazel & Billy respectively are Heather O’Carroll, Erin Banks and Sam Bunkall. The playwright Gavin McGibbon will be there seeing how things sound off the page.

So please come down, have a drink and listen to this fresh new play. So fresh, it has never been heard before... Oooh! Aaah! The Pit Bar will be open from 5.30pm.

The Pit Bar

This week at The Pit Bar we’re stoked to welcome the PlayPit into our events calendar . We’re stoked Miss Mica’s art is staying up a bit longer. We’re stoked that we’ve cracked two of the new puzzles, figured out how to play dominos and with seven letter triple score word play in weekly Scrabble. We’re stoked Paul is going to be on an episode of Shortland St. And we’re super stoked to have Bryony back We’re not stoked that we have to close at midnight on Easter Friday but we’re stoked we get to part right up till then. And we’re stoked we’ve got more late and live music for you after Easter.

In summary, this week, The Pit Bar is stoked.
