Get ‘souled’ out this Easter
Find out why Canadian jazz-soul band Newworldson is so big in Canada when the band visits Auckland and Rotorua this Easter on behalf of TEAR Fund.
TEAR Fund events manager Andrew Robinson said this will be the first time New Zealand audiences will have had the chance to see the band. “Newworldson is an incredible live act – the band members are all great musicians, full of energy, and they are heaps of fun.” The concert is free in Auckland and just $5 on the door in Rotorua.
The band was formed in a jazz bar in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada and released its first album, Roots Revolution, in 2006. Mr Robinson said Newworldsons’s musical style is very eclectic, but principally they are soul musicians. The band has toured with some of the top artists in the industry, including touring extensively with Grammy award winning band, the Newsboys.
Newworldson was voted the best new artist of the year in 2007 but critical acclaim for the band came when they won Gospel Musical Association Canada Album of the Year award two years running in 2007 and 2008.
“If you’re a fan of Late 80s Mercedes and Lt Funk, you will love Newworldson,” said Mr Robinson.
Other achievements
Newworldson's Salvation Station was selected as one of the 20 best albums of 2008 by Cross Rhythms. The album hit number 26 on Billboard magazines's Top Heatseekers chart in 2008.
