Winners of “All Eyes on Manukau” announced

The winner of Manukau Libraries’ inaugural teen photo competition “All Eyes on Manukau” is 16-year-old Stephan Vermuelen from Botany.

Stephan’s shot of his younger sister enjoying herself at a local park was selected from more than sixty entries by Judge Vinesh Kumuran.

Mr Kumuran said “This is a fantastic image. She has an excellent expression on her face, and it’s a beautiful shot.”

More than 900 people voted online or at their local library for the People’s Choice Award.  The competition was fierce with the three favourite photos only separated by 40 votes.

The winner was Chanmi Kim from Mangere Town Centre Library for her photo titled ‘Praise’.  The photo is a shot of her friend Praise breakdancing.  Chanmi says it represents the freedom youth have to express themselves.

Stephan took home a digital camera for his effort and Chanmi won a digital photo frame.

Organiser of the competition Jody Gayton, Literacy and Learning Coordinator for Manukau Libraries says the competition has been a real success. “Congratulations to Stephan and Chanmi and all those who entered.

They really took on board the challenge to showcase Manukau, leaving us with a wonderful record of the vibrancy and positivity of our city through the eyes of our youth,” says Ms Gayton.
