Natasha Utting took out over 30 other competitors to win the Media Cup for Charity held at Christchurch Casino to win $5,000 cash for Christchurch Children’s Holiday Camps Trust Charity.
After a hotly contested tournament, ten Canterbury charities were matched to the remaining media contenders on the final table which came down to Natasha Utting and Kim Triegaardt in a ‘heads up’ challenge.
Winner, Natasha, says that she’s thrilled with the win, “I’m stoked! It was tough, but lots of fun”.
Marshall Wright from Christchurch Children’s Holiday Camps Trust, the winning charity, says “We’re just ecstatic! Natasha played very well and we can’t thank her and Christchurch Casino enough”.
After taking out the Media Cup, Natasha had an once-in-a-lifetime experience and ‘bathed’ in the $700,000 cash prize that’s up for grabs at the New Zealand Poker Championships.
Natasha says of the money-bath, “It’s a surreal feeling to be rolling around in this much cash! I’m looking forward to having a shot at the top prize myself.”
Freelance writer, Kim Triegaardt, came second winning $3,000 for Autlink and Peter Hampton of The Star came third winning $2,000 for Cholmondeley Children’s Home.
The New Zealand Poker Championships officially begin Saturday 28 March at Christchurch Casino with the final taking place on Sunday 5 May.
