Mean Maori Mean! – Hyundai Code Returns To Maori Television

Dynamic sports entertainment show HYUNDAI CODE returns to Maori Television this week, kicking off this Thursday March 26 at 8.30 PM.

Jenny-May Coffin is back as the main presenter, and ‘Brofessionals’ Matua Parkinson and his cousin Glen Osborne – affectionately known to fans as Mutz and Oz – also make a welcome return to the studio couch.

But while the makers of the programme are excited to welcome their newest member – former Kiwi, Canberra Raider and NZ Warriors player and living legend, Ruben Wiki – they also farewell a presenter who has been involved with the show since the beginning.

Tawera Nikau has confirmed he will not be back for 2009.

“Tawera has been a big part of the show and will be missed. The team wishes him all the best for the future and thanks him for the huge contribution he had made,” says HYUNDAI CODE’s executive producer TK Wano.

The show was already one man down before Nikau’s decision to leave, after Wairangi Koopu accepted a spot in NRL team, Melbourne Storm. Exciting new additions have been planned to bolster the line up.

Familiar faces, former Kiwi and NZ Warriors player Awen Guttenbeil and former NZ Sevens captain, NZ Maori, and Wellington and North Harbour wing, Karl Te Nana, will be guest presenters this year.

HYUNDAI CODE won Best Sports Show at the Air New Zealand Screen Awards in 2007.

Programme-makers say they look forward to returning with what has proved to be a winning formula – but with a few tweaks to keep it fresh.

This season, Mutz has been lucky enough to travel to England and catch up with some former All Blacks, and those interviews will play out over the season. Carlos Spencer, Marty Holah and Dougie Howlett are just a few of the New Zealand players who made the move to earn pounds. This week Mutz speaks to Rico Gear, who now plays for Worcester.

“HYUNDAI CODE is a fun-loving show, but also with huge respect for our amazing sportspeople. Like every good host, we always try to ensure our guests have the room to shine,” says Wano. “So far, every season has been an improvement on the last, and we’ve got high hopes this year will be no exception. It’s great to be back.”
