About me and my photography:
I got into photography during my first year at university when I bought a second hand SLR. I joined the photographic society and found out that darkrooms and me didn't get along. After university I stopped taking photographs since my job took up so much of my time and drained my energy and creativity. Then I went to Taiwan, which is like the promised land of photography and I jumped back into my dream with wild abandon. Film, processing and printing is cheap and fast. There are lots of things to photograph, not only in Taiwan, but in the surrounding countries too. It is a place where inspiration is waiting around every corner. To display your work you don't need to be a recognized artist; you just need to enjoy your medium and put in the work. This series of photographs all started with a cow. I was taking some pictures of one when I was told that I should not bother, since everyone has seen a cow. They are too common to make a good photograph. That statement has bothered me for a long time, since it is obviously false but widely believed. Just because you look at something everyday, does not mean you see it, and just because something is common does not make it less special. This series is about emphasizing the common in our surroundings. I took all of the photos in this series while backpacking through South East Asia for 7 months. I used "The GIMP" www.gimp.org to edit these photos. Special thanks to my muse, whose ideas I purloined (stole is such a dirty word), without whom this series would never have been put together.
